What struck me the most were the endearing words of the beatitude, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Life nowadays has given many people tougher challenges, leaving greater opportunities for sin and weakness to arise. However, our loving God calls us to mourn – not in the sense of giving up, but instead lifting up our concerns to God. He acknowledges the beauty of one’s acceptance of his/her human nature – which inevitably involves flaws, mistakes, and trials. I believe that this beatitude simply implies how we must learn to call out to God in times of trouble, and never forget that He is our greatest source of strength.
Despite the fact that people have varied options as to the paths they wish to take in life, I believe that God has still set equal opportunities for us to become closer to Him and lead ourselves towards heaven. Specifically, in my point of view on life, I feel that this gospel can truly be a guide considering the many challenges that I currently face. Juggling so many commitments in school and such has become a really tough challenge for me to deal with, yet I believe that the Christian sense of “mourning” can truly help me get by. Comfort is such an essential aspect in the struggle towards sanctity, for difficulty may sometimes get the best of us. With God’s protection, though, I know that journeying towards becoming a saint is made closer for us to reach.
Looking back on my own life, I can say that God has constantly given me opportunities to exercise my faith as a Christian. My high school life in particular has played such a great role in my religious formation, and I’m very thankful for that. I’ve come to consider both the ups and downs of my personal life to be ways in which God allows me to realize His enduring love for me. Also, I can say that living out the messages of these beatitudes has become a lot easier by my joining in organizations, which are generally religious in nature. These have provided many ways for me to serve and become of help to the people around me, and continually realize ways in which I may be a better Christian in the process.
In my point of view, living out the message, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy,” is one of the more difficult challenges among all the beatitudes. Forgiveness is such a great act, and it takes a lot for one to sincerely give mercy when he/she is greatly hurt. Humility plays a big role in this beatitude, for mercy and forgiveness are impossible to achieve when one is not humble enough. It is not enough for one to simply forgive and forget when it comes to this beatitude, for he/she must be able to accept and look beyond others’ imperfections when he/she wishes to be merciful towards others.
The world and generation we currently live in holds many harsh truths, and because of this, people tend to stray away from the effort of doing good in society. Sometimes, those who continuously try to fight for what is right are looked down upon simply because their efforts seem to be of no use. However, I do believe that such acts go a long way in the battle of making this world a better place to live in. When one’s efforts can make a huge different in another individual’s life, what more can the combined effort of the entire population do? It simply takes that desire, that perseverance to be able to stand up for God and do what pleases Him, despite it probably being against our own will. When we commit ourselves to living beyond our own will, but for the benefit of others, we help uplift each other and contribute in making ourselves stewards of God’s love and peace.
