“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the land.” From the eight beatitudes, I chose this one because it struck me the most, and I believe that it's relevant for what the world is going through today.
This beatitude seeks for humility, trust, and patience. All three are qualities that Jesus exemplifies. When Jesus was to live as a human being, a mere son of a carpenter, He was judged and tormented because of his beliefs and status. As if the non-stop taunting and the teasing were not enough, He was shamed and crucified. Our savior took all of that without a single complain because he is truly meek and he believed in his purpose. It is important that we plant those qualities in our hearts. Although you may think that being Christ-like only leads to suffering, you are mistaken. Like Jesus, who was risen from the dead after three days, there is a promise for us that we shall inherit the land. God will not abandon us after all of our devotions and sacrifices. He promises us comfort, safety, and belonging.
In a world that is known to be very materialistic and greedy, arrogance and pride are prominent everywhere. We must not be sucked into the clusters of worldly people. With the eight beatitudes, especially the one I chose, as a constant remember, we must fight those temptations. God will always be behind us in everything we do, so we should not feel afraid and alone. Yes, the journey may be hard, but there really is ease in the end.
