“Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.” Most people might wonder what meek really means. Well, it was originally used as a term for domesticated animals. Now for the word used in this beatitude, meek refers to a strong person. A meek person is someone whose strength is controlled by God. I can relate to this because I have a bit of strong character. I’m not so passive and I do what I want to do. Although I am like this, I still lack faith. To be a strong person you need to have faith in yourself but more to God. Sometimes I get the feeling that God isn’t there and so my trust in Him is still weak. Being meek requires patience and understanding in the Lord. Thus, I should do all things for God who strengthens me if I want to possess the earth.
I will soon have my own vocation in life. When this happens, I know I will be stronger mentally and spiritually. I still have a long way to commit myself to anything. Having said that, I have to start acting now. I shouldn’t give in to petty, useless things in life. My decisions should always answer the question, “Is this for God?” I should have confidence in everything I do if I know it is good for God is always there. This beatitude has taught me the great value of patience in God and with this, it can help me become more of a saint. I will be able to understand the people around me more and maybe help the lost too.
In life, I’ve had many challenges. I remember this one time when I was very much in doubt in God. That was probably my faith at its weakest. This was because problems kept arising one after another. I was able to conquer this because of my parents and especially by God. After this, I knew God would never leave me. I knew problems are to be faced with courage and strength. These beatitudes are there for guidance and it speaks of the blessings that anyone could attain. Thus, challenges in life are stepping-stones. You walk your way up there to get the blessing that you will deserve
“Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” I find this beatitude rather hard. I’ve been a sinner since I was a small and I did not really understand these beatitudes yet. How can I still follow this beatitude then? It is also hard to have an entirely pure heart if I hate or dislike someone, right? Our imaginations and thoughts are hard too to control. Thinking more into this beatitude, I guess the only way is to start fresh. Confess your sins and start thinking twice before doing or saying anything. Awareness is the key to having a pure heart.
Of course, one great impact these eight beatitudes may give the world is peace. It is what everyone want, isn’t it? Then why don’t we help in keeping peace within ourselves? For me it always starts small. It starts in us and in our community to achieve true peace. Many people, especially those who are illiterate, don’t know these beatitudes. It is our job to teach them. Joining community organizations and projects could really help. Just imagine if we live in a world of no killings and fighting. I believe that the younger generation is the way to peace. The eight beatitudes have always been there and each one of us should understand this to live in a world of love and tranquility.
