Pure

Raphael A. Coronel Sr- E

We consider our society to have sinful social structures. We are exposed to a bad environment that encourages actions that go against our faith. The older we grow, the more aware of the presence of sin in our surroundings. Certain social sins are rooted from individuals who take sin lightly and continue their practices with a complete knowledge of their doings. This causes sin to consume the people who are unaware of their actions, thus spreading the practice of sin. We are constantly challenged to stay firm to our faith despite the standard that the world gives us. “Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.”

With whatever vocation we choose, sin will always be there to present itself to us. Whether in our workplace or in our own homes, sin will be there to attempt to tarnish the pureness of our hearts. I believe that this beatitude challenges us in several ways. To be pure in heart challenges us to remain sturdy and to not be swayed by sin. It also calls us to be sincere in the action we do, and that includes the vocation that we choose. I believe that the other beatitudes can be followed by this particular one. If we are able to remain pure at heart, it would translate to the action we do and the thoughts we formulate. This can help us become saints without any self interest.
Today, the world has created its own standards. People, who stand up for justice, are those who are persecuted. Material things are looked upon as treasures that represent how well we do in our lives. Being merciful, depressed and meek is looked down upon as weaknesses, and sometimes is even used to amuse other people. The gospel reveals that God has a different standard – a divine standard. He blesses those who go out of their own way in the name of justice and peace. God blesses those who remain in Him and those who live according to his teachings. Those who live in God’s way and not in mundane things are those who are blessed.
The most difficult for me would be “Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.” because of all the influences that surround us. Because of the world that we live in, it will be very difficult to keeps our hearts completely clean. I am not saying this is not possible, but I do believe that there will be difficulties in trying to achieve this and to maintain this in our lives.
If everyone would follow the beatitudes, the whole standard which the world has set will be changed. People would treat things with a different perspective. Everyone would share the same vision that God wants for all of us. With everyone sharing the same vision, unity would to achieve this by a mission would ensue. We would truly play the part of God’s creations as a reflection of His image and likeness.
