"Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted."
Last November 3, my grandmother passed away. Losing someone you were closely attached with was difficult to accept. When she was still confined in the hospital, I would pray the novena and the rosary over and over to ask guidance from God and to heal my grandmother from her sickness. When she passed away, I asked Why? Weren't my prayers heard? Weren't my prayers enough to heal my grandmother? It wasn't easy for me to be ready, but when will I be ready? Mourning wasn't enough to ease the pain nor to let go. Then I remembered that God has a specific plan for each one of us and what ever plan that may be will be for the best and surely that plan will make us stronger and more faithful to Him. My mourning showed how much I will miss my grandmother in the future, but deep inside me I am happy that she is in a better place now and that she is safe beside Him,
For me, mourning is somewhat asking help, guidance and comfort from the Lord. We mourn because we are sad. We mourn because we feel lost. We mourn because we feel alone. God watches us all the time. Whenever He sees us that we are in dire need of his presence, He is always there ready to be by our side. It is inevitable to feel lonely and lost, but whenever we feel that there is no way out in whatever situation we are in, we should never forget that God is there to carry our burdens for us. He is there to comfort us in every way.
All the time we hear these beatitudes being repeated and still we take these for granted. We shouldn't just read it or memorize it because we are told to do so, but we should understand it whole-heartedly because it will help increase our faith in God. Each Beatitude isn't difficult to live. If we give time to thoroughly understand each by heart, then it would be easier for us to be more sensitive to what we do. Beatitudes aren't rules. They are guides for the people to have a better and faithful life here on earth. God will never give rules or guides that will hurt us, which means it won't give harm to us if we at least try to give ourselves time to reflect and to understand God's words.
