We have many different interpretations of the Eight Beatitudes. It may be denotative or connotative, but either way, there is a message it tries to communicate to us. We begin our lives being innocent and somewhat naïve, but as we grow, we grow not only physically, but grow with a new mental and reflective state of mind and with a new sense of purpose. This new sense of purposes affects not only how we think, but how we act. It affects are decisions in life and ultimately affects the way we live the remainder of our lives. For me, this particular beatitude tries to convey to us that those who are poor, not only in material wealth and worldly possessions, but those who are poor in faith and spirituality, are ready to be accepted by God with open arms. God wants to guide those who are poor in spirit to Him and lead them to a “wealthy” state, not wealthy because of material possessions, but wealthy in a sense of spirit, love, and faith for Christ.
As a young Christian, I know my responsibilities and obligations as a Christian. Not only must we follow these as obligations, we must follow these with our hearts. We should not merely remain faithful because we are told to do so, rather, we must realize within ourselves the true meaning of Christian Faith and value it, love it, and live it. I personally have lost touch of my connection with God because of many difficulties I have been going through with my friends, family, as well as academics. Before all those issues, I have always had trouble regaining my connection with God. But after so many problems, instead of getting depressed about all these things, I began to turn to God. I decided to grab the opportunity I have been missing and reconnect with Him. It not only helped me reconnect. God began to return to my life as my friend, my father, and my confidant.
People today now work to live. Individuals are now obsessed about getting good jobs and earning a lot of money to the point that they forget the real purpose of their lives. Not only is this applicable to working individuals, it is also evident in the youth today. They are given more responsibilities at school and at home, and they begin to live their lives with constant distraction. The particular beatitude (as mentioned previously) is further exemplified in these situations. People lose sight of God in the midst of so many occurrences in the world today. If people attempt to create a balance between materialism and religious obligations and faith, this can affect how the person handles different problems. With the aid of the Father, each and every individual can turn into someone stronger, more patient, more loving, and more faithful. If this is achieved and spread globally, people can live better and peacefully with each other and not only begin to live a good life but gain the “peaceable kingdom” God has wanted us to become. If the Eight Beatitudes are observed and taken by heart, our people’s stewardship with the earth will improve while our fellowship with God will strengthen.
Diamonds are precious. Before a miner realizes a diamond is what it is, they have to work for it. They look for it in the deepest part of caves and mines. They do not see the total beauty of the diamond at first but they see it as something deformed and covered with rock and dirt. But after shaping it and cleaning it, its real beauty that’s always been there is seen. Just like our relationship with God, its true purpose, meaning and beauty is not seen by people at the beginning. But as we work hard, we discover its true beauty. We discover the beauty of Faith.
