“Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven”
“Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” This beatitude struck me the most because I know (and we all know) that standing up or living up to what is right and good is not very easy. Most of the time, we are even persecuted, made fun of or even discriminated for doing such good acts. Even if this is the case, we shouldn’t be discouraged from continuing to do good acts. For sure, God will never let us down and He will surely reward us, it may not be in here on earth, but for sure, our reward will be great in heaven.for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven”
I know that I can surely apply this beatitude no matter what vocation I opt to choose. Like I said, doing what is right is not easy and often times we are perceived as bad people for doing it. This cannot be avoided, but I would surely never stop doing good deeds even if it would lead me to death. A good example for this is Jesus Christ. He was persecuted by everyone because he showed them goodness, he preached God’s word to them, he performed miracles for them, etc… This did not stop Jesus from doing his mission! He continued on with his mission and was very passionate ‘til he was finally put to death by the people. Like Jesus, I would never be discouraged to continue doing my mission even if I am persecuted.
“Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” This beatitude is very timely during Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 because we remember our dear loved ones who had gone before us. Our mourning is only temporary because our loved ones have not left us for good and we will surely see them again when we also return to our Father in heaven. God has something better in store for them (and us) in his kingdom in heaven. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” Sometimes, I am caught in the middle of arguments between my friends, my family or in any of my relationships. If I know that I can do something to help fix the problem in order to attain a peaceful relationship again, I make sure that I do my best to help in fixing it. These are just some of the experiences that I had that involve the beatitudes. I cannot really share particular stories for all the beatitudes because I am sure that even if I am not aware about it, these beatitudes are always applicable to my everyday life.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.” For me, this beatitude is not very easy to live out. When people do me wrong, I find it hard to forgive them especially if I was very hurt of what they did. But I am always trying my best to practice this beatitude because I know that Jesus has done the same for me. Even if we do things that hurt Jesus so much, He still accepts us and welcomes us to His family for as long as we are sorry for what we did.
I believe that if people would be practicing these 8 beatitudes religiously, there would surely be a great change in the world. We would be living in a world that is full of love and peace. There would no be pains, sufferings and hurts. If only the world would be like this, God would be very happy for us.
