The beatitude that struck me the most would have to be, “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” This beatitude struck me the most because it tells us that in order to see God in all his glory we must have pure intentions and pure love for Him. I believe that this is how things should be because only those who are truly deserving should be able to see God since He is what brought us to this world and only people who truly deserve and want to see Him, should be given that chance.
This particular beatitude is one, if not the best way, for us to become a saint. I say this because having a pure heart means being someone who is free from any evil thoughts, intentions and is virtually and all around good person. Becoming pure of heart is much like vocation; it is a journey that will lead us to our goal, God. This journey will transform us into a greater person than we were before because it will give us the right tools the properly follow the beatitude and become truly pure of heart.
There are many experiences in my life that have concretized the 8 beatitudes. One of them is showing compassion to the less fortunate. This can be related to the beatitude, “Blessed are the merciful for they shall be shown mercy.” Showing mercy to the poor is something that should be automatic to us, but it doesn’t mean that we should show signs of compassion every time we see a poor person. It only means that we should show mercy, but we should not abuse it because we should be shown mercy ourselves. Another is “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake for they shall inherit the kingdom of God.” It tells us that we should tell the truth no matter what no matter what will happen to us. I have experienced this when I lie to my parents of friends and find out that lying will not make things easier, they just make things worse. It is telling us that we should tell the truth rather than lie and regret it later.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall b called children of god.” is one of the more difficult beatitudes to uphold because these times are filled with violence and anger. People tend to finish arguments by fighting and not resolving them in a peaceful way. This is not what God wants; He wants us to become peacemakers because He made us in order to call us His children and becoming his children will lead us to our ultimate goal, salvation with God.
The beatitudes can give the world a great impact because they are what need to be done in order to create the world God wanted for us. They will help us become better people, better Christians and all in all better soldiers for God. The beatitudes are not just there for us to look at, they were made in order for us to follow and emulate and liove the mission of Jesus as He wanted us to.
