Making Of A Lawyer
People say it takes hard work, patience and intelligence to become a lawyer. But I say it takes more than that, it needs faith and the will to succeed. Ever since I was a little girl and my father would tell me stories, I’ve always wanted to become a lawyer.
Being a lawyer is my choice of vocation because it will make me happy and I want to fight for those who cannot do it by themselves like the needy and the poor. My father’s stories about my grandfather that I never met, Atty. Jose C Rivera inspired me to become a lawyer and live my dreams. He is my professional role model for he worked hard and pursued his dream, and became Henry Sy’s first legal consultant. With all the stories I have heard, I can say that he was a good man because he helped others and gave immeasurable love to his family especially, to my father and those qualities I really admire of him.
Helping and giving a hand to the needy and poor has always made me happy. Giving to others is one of the things I always want to keep doing. Last September 1 on my birthday I went to Elsie Gaches and fed the poor children with McDonalds and gave them toys, the happiness in their faces were unforgettable. It was the best feeling in the world, better than buying material things. I could see in them that little and simple things in life made them happy and that is what is living life is about. What’s important in my life is happiness, love I give to my family and others, fulfilling my dreams. I will do my best to make my dream come true by studying harder, focus on my studies and less on going out because that’s my weakness. My parents support me in becoming a lawyer and they inspire by giving me advice. I know it will take a long time to become a lawyer, but I feel it is my calling to be one because I know it will make me happy. I will never give up as long as fate is on my side.
I know I have the qualities and the will to become a lawyer. I need God’s guidance in making it come true. I have the love and support from my family. When I get older and I do become one, I will assist the poor and give them what they need. I know being a lawyer is my calling, but also helping the needy. Making others happy is the best lesson I’ve learned. Professional success is about happiness and what you’ve given others; It is not about wealth and power. So I will live my life as a follower of Christ, fulfil my dreams and become Atty. Valerie D. Rivera Someday.
