Mama Mary to Me

By: Bea Pedrosa

I cannot seem to understand how one is capable of not believing in the Virgin Mary. Who willingly accepted the word of God? Who risked her future all for a command she believed to be coming from the Almighty? Who walked up the staircase of faith with eagerness rarely ever seen in mankind? Mary laid her life on the clouds of heaven letting God know that her life is His. She was all set in one night, in minutes, without thought and hesitation. She didn’t need a cause or a reason; she just needed the assurance that the Lord Himself uttered a command for her to listen to, for her to accept.

It is very easy to tell you that Mary is like a mother to me, or Mary takes care of me, which is why I am choosing to tell you how else I view my Mother Mary. Like a confidant and a shoulder to cry on, she is my refuge in times of need. I feel as though with whatever burden is drowning me at the moment, I can simply close my eyes and talk to her; whether it be to ask for help, to run to home, or to just speak my hearts concerns, I know that she will take my broken voice and send up my thoughts and emotions to Jesus, her son.

We see this special being in different lights, but I think we can stand on the same conclusion that she is our strength, our messenger, our voice. She is our Mother, willing to save us all, willing to teach us how to live a life like hers. Some of us may try, but we all know that mimicking her humility, devotion, and determination will take a life’s worth of lessons; there’s bound to be a thousand reasons to stay fallen with fear, but with Mary, we will be given a million reasons to get back up and try again.
