"Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe"

Excellent Work by:By Pauline Batac

For whoever's reading this essay right now, you're probably wondering why I chose such a phrase as the title of my essay. Got your attention there, didn't I? Well as we all know, Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe is widely known to be used to help children make decisions. And frankly, a little Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe is what our countrymen need to do right now.

The reproductive health bill or what is more popularly known as the RH bill is one very controversial topic in the Philippines today. This is mainly because of the fact that the government and Church are in conflict about this. The government is for the bill while the Church is against it. What should we choose? On one hand, the government is only concerned about population growth in the Philippines and the welfare of its people; most especially of the women and all unborn fetuses. These concerns also affect other problems in the Philippines in terms of our economy, morality, as well as the environment. The Church on the other hand is concerned with the preservation of Catholic laws and traditions as well as that of human life. Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe.. what should we choose?

I, for one, support the RH Bill. I believe it is time to take control of our country in every aspect possible. If we want progress and development, we must be open-minded to the new and more effective ways of attaining these. I don't think that by approving the RH bill we stop being christians and stewards of creation. There is always a halfway point between two things; a compromise. Nothing good is ever attained through violence or anger. We must put aside such things because these only serve as hindrances to our goals as a nation. Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe.. our choices dictate the kind of people we are. The purpose of the RH bill is for health, for welfare. Something like this shouldn't be equated to abortion, pre-marital sex, or anything of the sort. As Christians, with or without the RH bill, it is a c0nscious choice to live everyday by the gospel or not. To follow God's footsteps or not. To listen to our conscience or not. We are capable of much, much more than just abusing the privilege of taking care of our reproductive health, if ever it is approved. It seems that if one is immature and illogical enough to use the RH bill as an excuse for all the wrong reasons then that person does not deserve to be called a Christian. Christianity is one of the oldest religions known to man. I believe that by now, we should be confident and secure in the knowledge that Christianity and its morals will live on inside the hearts of its people even through the advancements in the world today. Eenie Meenie Mienie Moe.. what would you choose?
