A Prayer From Another Mother

By: Renz Angelo L. Que Sr-B

According to the bible, The Blessed Virgin Mary was the mother of Jesus Christ. In addition to her Biblical biography, there are three primary doctrines that the Roman Catholic Church teaches about Mary: The Immaculate Conception, Mary as co-mediatrix with Jesus Christ, and the Assumption.

For me, Mary is our universal mother. She cares for and loves all her kids, which is us, like our own mothers. She was the only one who could conceive such a holy person, Jesus, because she herself was very holy. I was amazed that she remained a virgin even though she gave birth to Jesus. One more thing that made me believe why a lot of people idolize her is because of the sacrifices she made. Imagine giving birth on a stable without any doctors or medication and only a few farm animals and your husband are there to support you. For me it was a huge sacrifice carrying the only son of our almighty God in her womb and that’s why I think that she is a strong woman that young girls should look up to. She had to watch her son die on a cross and all she could do was watch and cry.

As a lasallian, I was taught to talk to God all the time. I think I started to talk to Mama Mary when I was in the second grade because my teacher, Ms. Doris, introduced her to me. I didn’t know what to say to her or if she was even listening to me at first, because I thought she would only listen to little girls’ prayers. I asked my mom why it was important for me to talk to Mama Mary and she said that she was the one who gave birth to baby Jesus and without her we wouldn’t be saved from sin. Until know every time I sin I say sorry to her, because I know she was part of what saved us from sin and like any other mother, she would be upset why we had to sin and ask for an explanation why we did it. My relationship with Mama Mary is pretty good so far and I plan to keep it that way or even improve on it.

My mother prays for me all the time. About where I go to college, my safety, when I am in school or when I am about to sleep. She makes it a point that she lifts me up to God before she sleeps at night. As a mother to all of us, Mother Mary also prays for us all the time. In whatever we do, Mother Mary never fails to pray for our safety and for our blessings. Until know I ask for help from Mama Mary if I have a problem or if I want to ask permission to go to a party. Mary loves us all because we are all her children, so whenever you feel down or alone, just remember someone is always praying for you.
