For Better or for Worse

Reflection on the RH Bill by Raymund M. Polito Sr-C

For Better or for Worse

It’s difficult to side on something that would go against what one believes in. There always seem to be two sides in every act or situation. One of the hardest situations we Filipinos are facing is the Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill). For one, the Philippines is a very religious country, but it is also facing the calamity of poverty. If the RH bill is passed, poverty can be reduced, but we’d be going against the Church. If the RH bill is forgone, we’d be standing on the rights of the Church, but the same time will be making our country vulnerable to over population. I’m pretty sure Pres. Noynoy Aquino and the Church knows well of this and other factors.

However, in my defense, I see that the RH Bill SHOULD be passed. Times have changed. We’re now becoming susceptible to the dangers of overpopulation. I’m not against the Church and I even support their pro-life actions, but isn’t it that the problems of poverty also endangers the life of people? Doctors often say that prevention is the easiest cure. So why can’t we prevent ourselves from vulnerability? Einstein once said science without religion is madness. I actually believe that “science” is a product of God. Doesn’t science have a part in the ultimate plan?

That being said, the passing of the RH Bill wouldn’t be enough. The people of this country should become aware of the dangers of overpopulation. All of us should at least try to control ourselves. Our actions aren’t only for ourselves, but also for those who have bright futures. Preservation of life is important. All actions done must be for better or worse.
