We are but Children

By: Raphael A. Coronel Sr-E

As a child, I would call her “Mama” Mary without fully understanding her role in my life. She is the mother of God. This was possible because she was conceived without sin, making her immaculate. Without her and her faith, Christianity would not be the same, and it may not even exist without her. She plays an important role in our struggle to obtain salvation.

I remember that I started being conscious with my relationship with the Holy Mother when I was in grade school. Our class was called to go to the chapel. In the chapel, we were given a two brown pieces of cloth that were connected to for a necklace, a scapular. The priest blessed the scapulars and instructed us to say a few lines in order for us to be enrolled in the Confraternity of the Scapular. After the ceremony, I remember feeling loved. Knowing that we were being protected by more that just our guardian angels made me more aware of how important our salvation is for God and Mama Mary. They give us so many chances and they help us, whether directly or indirectly, but we take these things for granted.

Mary was a teenager when she said “yes” to God’s plan for her. This was a great display of obedience. This tells us that it is possible for someone that young to willingly give one’s self to fulfill God’s plan. The Holy Mother was able to give herself to God and this resulted in the salvation of nations. More than a mother, Mary is the ideal Christian. Before the apostles and disciples of Jesus, Mary was already a follower of Jesus. She is a mother that cares for all the children of the Lord, and we should love her back, for she has done so much for us.
