Excellent Work by: Jose Paulo Alcantara
Back when I was still in grade school, people would ask me what I wanted to be and I would always say that I wanted to be a lawyer just like my dad. But as soon as I graduated grade school I started to think on what I really wanted to be.
Then on one of my recollections, when I read my parents’ letter for me, my Dad wrote in there that he wanted me to work harder so that one day I will be as successful as he. My reaction to it, having a competitive nature, I wanted to do more than that. I wanted to become more successful than him so that he and everyone else will be proud of me. My whole life in DLSZ I never really got serious with my studies so I never really did anything that would be acknowledged by my parents, they would always tell me to do better. Of course I knew that my parents believed that I had more potential and they only wanted me to make use of it. And as I reached the end of my high school life, I started getting worried because I still didn’t know what I wanted to be. And so I asked my siblings what made them choose their courses. My eldest sister told me that it was chosen for her but she didn’t regret it. My other sister chose economics because she loved store, specifically clothing stores. My older brother told me that he really wanted to be an engineer, specifically a mechanical engineer, but he instead chose MIS.
After carefully thinking about what I wanted to be, I decided that I wanted to be an engineer that would specialize in technology like computers, routers, etc… My brother really helped me making this decision because my mom and dad would always be out working or doing errands, that is why I and my brother would have similar interests. I am very thankful to my brother for helping me choose my course. Now, being months away from graduating, I am waiting to go to college and graduate so that I can start earning my own money. And when I start becoming successful like my dad, I will pay them back for everything they have given me. My goal is not only to be successful financially but also to become a tool that will support my family and friends, and all those that is need of help.
