“Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”
Who is this “Mary” that we pray for almost everyday of our lives? Who is this “Mary” that endlessly appears in the rosary? Is she just the mother of God or Jesus? Very simple questions, but they aren’t really easy to answer.
As cliché as it sounds, Mary is a mom to me. I may not see her physically but I do feel her spiritually. For some reason, I just know that she is always there guiding me. I am pretty sure that all of you as well feel the same. And that is what is so amazing about her, she is only one person and yet she makes it a point to be there for everyone. Just like our moms, she makes it a point that we are always safe, always taken care of, always being guided. She works in ways that we don’t even know of. She does not pick people because to her, we are all her children and we are all equal in her eyes. I pray to her when I need comforting, or I need motherly advice from. She may not be answering me right then and there when I pray, but I feel her responses in one way or another. She let’s me feel them.
She is also my role model. She was chosen by God to bear his son, Jesus. That alone is the biggest honor anyone could ever receive! And to top it all of, she is pure. She has not committed any sin. I don’t know how she did it, because I know, and we all know that it is almost impossible to not commit any sin. She is the perfect example of perfection.
I see her as a best friend. That I bet is something that hasn’t been really associated with her. So why as a best friend? Because she knows all my secrets. I talk to her almost every night, telling her all my problems, my weaknesses, my goals, even the gossip around earth. I tell her these things because I know that she does not judge me. She just listens. Whenever I talk to her, I feel good because I know that there is still someone, even though she isn’t here, that is still trustworthy, non judgmental and very comforting to talk to.
