Why Do Ethnicities Clash
by: cloyd uyson
Ethnic conflicts are usually the result of the so-called ethnic nationalism which has a deep and serious root to the origin of each and every ethnic group. These clashes are practically caused by socio-political, religious and even economic reasons. The fact that people around the world, since time immemorial has this rule of survival of the fittest, it is no wonder that ethnicities will always try to outwit and outsmart one another.
Scholars agree that an ethnic clash or ethnic conflict is a problem in between ethnic groups which sometimes result to genocide or the death of numerous innocents, even of an entire tribe or group of people. This is what experts refer to as ethnic nationalism. Meaning to say, these people are all set to give their lives for the welfare of their fellow tribesmen or countrymen.
This reality is one interesting topic and subject among a lot of academicians, from sociologists to psychologists and the like. These scholars believe that studying the root cause why people, or any group of ethnics fight nail and tooth may provide and offer to the oldest problem of the world, namely: war of ethnicities.
Academic explanations of this so-called ethnic clash can generally be categorizes into one of three basic philosophies: the primordialist, the instrumentalist or the constructivist. These three areas of understanding ones way of life are the primary reason why ethnicities get into trouble.
The primordialist reason states that these ethnicities basically emerge in society due to the fact that there are forms of cultural belief and collective actions leading to this so-called primordial realities and objects such as the bodily features and most importantly territorial domains.
Instrumentalist reason on the other hand points to the fact that these races are instrumental towards the attainment of an end or a common good. They join hands together in attaining this goal even to offer their lives. Constructivist, which is a by-product of Jean Piaget’s thought presents the fact of a communitarian construction of collective experiences which becomes the basis of their goal in fighting with others.
