Best Work of Benjamin Paul Parilla Sibucao : Rich Man and Lazarus Gospel Reflection

Benjamin Paul Parilla Sibucao Sr-C

Gospel Reflection # 1

In our world today there are many rich people who don’t share their blessings with the poor. There are many people who are selfish and don’t help other people. For example, the beggars in the street who knock on our car windows asking for a little amount of money. Eventhough they can give a little amount of money, they won’t give because they are selfish. WE MUST SHARE! J

The Gospel is a great story because it shows the reality of life that some rich people are proud of their wealth and don’t share their blessings with others. It shows the love for material things without being sensitive to the needs of other people.

I THINK the rich man is very proud of his wealth and wanted to show Lazarus that he is poor and has no right to enjoy good things like eating on the table with the rich man.

I THINK the rich man was sorry for the way he treated Lazarus because he was in hell suffering while Lazarus was in heaven. He even asked Father Abraham to send Lazarus to bring him some water to cool him off and to warn his brothers not to do the things he did so that they will not go to hell.

I THINK the rich man’s brothers did not follow what Moses and the prophets writings said to do because as the rich man said,”No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will believe.” This line means that they won’t believe the writings of Moses and the prophets unless someone dead tells what actually happened to the rich man.

As a Lasallian, I must use and apply the Christian and Lasallian values to other people in my everyday life. I should be not be proud of whatever I have or what I am but always be humble. I should love people as I love myself. I must be sensitive to the needs of other people and help them. As a follower of Jesus, I must spread the Nature and Mission of the church and that is to spread God’s word. The word of God talks about helping and loving one another as a Christian community.

If I were in the shoes of Lazarus, I will do what he did because I am humble and forgiving. If I were in the shoes of the rich man, I will not be proud of my wealth but instead share my blessings with other people especially to the poor ones because by helping and sharing God will give me more blessings. The moral of the gospel is not to be proud of one’s wealth but to be humble always because in the bible it says, “He who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”.
