"My Plan"

Excellent work by: Eliza Pauline R. Batac Senior B

As of today, my studies are what matter to me the most. I am constantly putting my efforts into doing very well in my academics this year because I feel I haven't been doing as best as I know I can throughout my high school life. I feel the weight of my future especially this year. I have realized that I haven't been really thinking about what I want to be in the future and what direction I want my life to go. I think that maybe focusing on my strengths could help me decide. I believe that I am inclined towards dancing and speaking. I think I could do well as a news broadcaster or journalist. Now I think that it is also good to contemplate on my weaknesses which are just important considerations in choosing what career I want to pursue. Sadly, I am not very good with the arts. Painting, drawing, or sculpting? I am not very good with computer programming as well. These are areas that I believe limit my abilities as a person. Of all the things I have done, it is in making others happy that made me happiest. It is in knowing that I was able to separate from my selfish ways and became of service to others. Throughout my high school life, I have learned a great number of lessons that I'm sure will help me a lot with my life even through and after college. One would be that you cannot please everybody. It is a common mistake by high school girls and sometimes even grown women to want to please everyone. The only effect of this is disappointment, of course. Another would be to be yourself. Cliche but true, I had to struggle with this one a little bit. I always felt like the real me wasn't perfect and so I would always try to conceal those things about me that I thought wouldn't please others. Now I recognize the importance of being yourself. I am me, and I will be the only me there will ever be. Everyone else is taken and the best I can be is myself. I know that now and this new knowledge has improved my life tremendously. The best thing I've done to help other people would probably be my activity in outreach programs. Though I haven't went on a lot of outreaches, I am proud to say that my heart and desire was sincere in wanting to learn about the lives of those who are less fortunate and actually wanting to help them. I truly hope that I may be blessed with success in life so that one day, I can help these people in a more concrete way. My professional role model would probably be Oprah Winfrey. She is someone I really look up to because though her origins are very humble, she succeeded as a journalist and now a talk show host and one of the most influential women in the world because of her hard work and intelligence. I am lucky to have been able to undergo training as a cheerleader and dancer so I guess these can be considered my gifts. I am actually called to share these gifts a lot this year. We have a lot of dance productions and my classmates depend on me to choreograph. Sometimes it is hard because discipline is always an issue but I know that nothing great is ever achieved without hard work so I really do look forward to just doing my best to help out and maximize the potentials of my classmates. My parents' occupations actually did not influence my choice of vocation very much. My father is a businessman while my mother is a flight attendant and certified nurse. As you can see, not much of a connection there. My strength in english and speaking has greatly affected my career choice. My outgoing personality and confidence in public speaking has also impacted my choice. I believe professional success is a combination of hard work, talent, cleverness, and luck. There are really so much factors that contribute to success but I believe that passion is the most important quality one must hold to succeed. Lastly, I believe that one very important key to success is one's support system. Your family, friends, and God must always be considered in making decisions. Truly, we owe them a lot and we must not forget to let them share in our success.
