Why Marriage is an Institution
More than anything else, marriage can aptly be defined and regarded as an institution simply because of the fact that there are a lot of people who are basically involved in a particular marriage. Now let us first settle what does an institution implies? An institution is usually made up of more that two persons whose vision and mission is in unison with the persons involved in such an organization. In marriage, the vision and mission of those contracting parties together with all the rest of witnesses both directly and directly involved in the said sacrament is geared for the lasting union of the couple. Now, it is therefore given that the couple alone, namely the bride and the groom, are not the only people who are part and parcel of marriage. Among others, God is foremost part of such union that must last until death. Since God is the one who instituted this sacrament, the couple cannot but accept the realities of how marriage should work according to God’s plan. The sponsors, parents and the whole entourage of the couple during their marriage are also included in the said union although indirectly. Hence this fact makes this sacrament of marriage an institution. As an institution, marriage itself should therefore have specific rules and guidelines which the couple themselves should formulate and observed. This will make marriage therefore an institution per se. But the be all and end all why marriage is aptly regarded as an institution is the fact that God is intertwined in such ultimate bond of the couple.
