Reflection on the rich man and Lazarus.

Excellent work by: Justus Fiedler Sr-B

Gospel 2

(Lk.16:19-31)

The gospel was about a rich man and Lazarus. The rich man was able to feed himself and he had shelter. In short, he had all the pleasures of the world. Lazarus on the other hand was a poor man. He just lived outside the rich man’s house. Through time, Lazarus got sick and he died. God then sent his angles to pick him up and bring him to heaven. Soon, the rich man also died, but he was sent to hell. The rich man wanted Lazarus to cool him because of the flames in hell. Abraham then told the rich man that in his lifetime, he had everything and he didn’t share. Staying and burning in hell is the consequence of being selfish while he was alive. He should deal with it and suffer the consequences. The rich man then asked Abraham for help. The rich man wanted Abraham to warn his brothers about what would happen to them if they don’t change. Abraham then said that that’s what the prophets are there for.

The gospel can be related to the social injustice we have today. The rich man represents the high class in society. The rich just do things that would give an advantage to them and their family. Lazarus is the lower class of society. They work as hard and they don’t earn as much. They work or beg to earn money just to survive everyday world. The money that they make doesn’t even satisfy the needs of their families. The world we live in is a selfish society. We just get whatever we can grab on without thinking of others. We just start to forget about the teachings of Jesus and the prophets. We have to treat others like how we want to be treated. We are all the same in nature. We are all human and we deserve to be treated equally. We all must help whoever we can help in little ways first like donating to the less fortunate. That small deed will get bigger and bigger because a lot of people will be influenced by this.
