Moving Mountains: Excellent Gospel Reflection2 of Paula Lim

Gospel Reflection #2

Moving Mountains

The apostles came to Jesus asking Him to help them increase their faith. He said that if the apostles had faith the size of a mustard seed and ordered the mulberry tree to be uprooted and be planted in the sea, it would follow. Jesus also asked the apostles on who would ask his servants to sit down and eat their meals at once after a long days work. He then said, “Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eat and drink. You yourself can eat and drink afterwards?” After fulfilling the master’s orders, Jesus said “Say, “We are useless servants: we have done no more than our duty.”

In this gospel, the apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith as His followers. Jesus responds by telling them that faith the size of a mustard seed can make wonders. Just like the saying faith can make you move mountains, having faith in God empowers us to accomplish tasks even the ones considered seemingly impossible. Faith releases us from all attachments and removes all fears and hesitations that hinder us from living life fully. It is in living a faithful life when one’s relationship with God is fully developed and cared for. Just like how servants can follow their leader without any doubts, faith teaches us to go through life as if we were blindfolded and only guided by an all-knowing being whom we cannot even see. One good example of someone with great faith is Nick, a man who was born with neither arms nor legs. No one could explain his sickness and even his parents were dumbfounded on what could’ve caused his rare condition. But there was one thing wherein Nick proved us all wrong; his condition never caused his downfall but it was an example of his strength and faith in God. He could’ve just tried living the easiest life possible by just staying at home and doing nothing, but he didn’t. He went around all-over the world, touching the hearts of people from different walks of life and teaching them that there’s always a positive outcome from any event in life. He inspires people to never give up on life and to have faith that everything will get better. Nick stresses that we should have faith in God because of the fact that he will never abandon us like he never abandoned Nick.

The life story of Nick teaches us to live life and to take every obstacle and blessing as it comes. As humans, it is inevitable to be consumed by our wants, needs and fears, but God stresses that these things are just earthly worries and are easily solved. His solution: Be guided with faith, hope and love. That’s why he established the Church, the Assembly of God. The Church serves as our refuge away from all earthly attachments and brings us back to God. Now as Christians, we are challenged to leave our fears and worries behind and focus on nurturing our faith. Sooner or later, you’ll see that you will worry less and be happy more. You’ll feel empowered and confident that there is something bigger than everyone else guiding you through every step of the way. We are all challenged to live life as if every day is your last. It’s a cliché, I admit; but it’s true.

After reading the gospel and watching the video, it just points out that through faith our whole life can change. We will no longer be bound by negative vibes that impedes us from truly living our life. Faith the size of a mustard seed is capable of moving mountains, what more if it’s bigger? Even if we are just humans, we are capable of doing so much more with God by our sides. <3
