THE HAGUE -
A young Filipino who lived off a rubbish dump and slept in an open tomb has won
a prestigious children's award in the Netherlands for his work to improve the
rights of his fellow street kids. Cris "Kesz" Valdez, aged 13, was
handed this year's International Children's Peace Prize at a glittering
ceremony in The Hague on Wednesday.
Valdez was chosen from
three finalists for the work of his "Championing Community Children"
charity which raises funds to hand out gift parcels to needy children in Cavite
City, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of the capital Manila. "You are
wonderful," Nobel Peace laureate Desmond Tutu, who handed over this year's
prize, told Valdez at a press conference shortly after the ceremony, held in
The Hague's historic Knight's Hall. "My message to children around the
world is not to lose hope" and to remember things like hygiene, said
Valdez, who added that the prize would help him get an education and perhaps
realise his dream of becoming a doctor.
Through his charity,
Valdez has handed out more than 5,000 gifts to destitute children that included
everyday articles like flip-flops, toys, sweets and clothes, said the
KidsRights Foundation, the prize's initiator. In all, he has helped some 10,000
children in his area on health, hygiene and children's rights, the foundation
added.
Some 246,000 street
children are, like Valdez was as a young child, subjected to abuse, violence
and child labor in the Philippines, it said.
Asked about the prize
money, KidsRights Foundation chairman Marc Dullaert said a committee was now to
decide, together with Valdez, to which projects it would be donated.

Reading
a Short Story: Human Experience
It has been Ulysses’ dream to join a
fraternity. All his barkadas are already members of Scout Royale Brotherhood
(SRB). And he envies the brotherhood and camaraderie displayed by the members
of the fraternity. So, he decided to join SRB.
It took him quite some time to nurse his
bruised legs and aching torso caused by the blows in the initiation. He didn’t
know that what he had just embarked into not only meant body pains but also a
lot of responsibilities. For one, he is now tasked to follow rules and
regulations of the organization. At the same time, he is also tasked to protect
the interest of the group as he promotes rapport and unity among the members. Indeed, he has entered a life totally
different from what he has been used to.

Elicaño, Anna Carmina's Gospel Reflection
Summary: The video was about the Pentecost and it's meaning. It discusses what
happened when the spirit entered the building. It also discusses how the spirit
changed them and how it enabled them to go out and preach the word of God. It
discusses what gifts it gave the apostles.
Reflection: At first, the apostles were scared. They were very scared,
anxious, wondering what would happen to them without Jesus. Then, the Holy
Spirit came and changed them, made them stronger. This made me realize that if
we let the Holy Spirit in our lives, if we listen to it, if we let it transform
us, we will become better people and become closer to God.
Action plan: I promise to always listen to the Holy Spirit. If it tells me to
do this, i promise to do it as i know that the Holy Spirit knows what is right.
For example, i will share my things (pens, eg) to those who need them. Or if
someone needs help, i promise to help him or her. In any situation, i will
trust the Holy Spirit.

Title: Pentecost
Title: Pentecost
Summary:
The Pentecost is when the God sent out the
Holy Spirit to tell the Apostles a message. The message was to spread the word
of God out to the world. So the Holy Spirit came to them in the form of strong
winds and tongues of fire. After that the Apostles were talking in different
languages, which gave them the idea that they are chosen to spread the word of
God to the world, which they did.
Reflection:
I learned that we can spread the Word
of God in many ways. Either, by talking in the native language of the person
you are talking to or by telling them directly what it is. Also I have learned
that the Holy Spirit can not be seen but can come in many and different ways.
Action Plan:
What I will do is that I will spread
the word of God, wether it's to my family or my friends. Also I will go the Sunday Mass
every week with my family, because most of the time we missSunday Mass.
Lastly, I will participate in donation giving for my church.

Title:
Pentecost
Summary:
Last week's gospel was all about how the Holy Spirit inspired and gave
hope to the apostles. The Holy Spirit gave them the capability to speak in
different mother languages. The Holy Spirit did this so that the apostles can preach in
different parts of Israel.
Reflection:
The Holy Spirit gave the apostles hope during pentecost that Jesus will forever more be
alive in our hearts. The Holy Spirit still continues to gives hope and blessings in many
ways possible. The Holy Spirit is the forgettable one even though He is
the Santa of the trinity. He is the one who unites us with the Lord and Jesus
and we have to thank Him for all the blessing He gave.
Action
Plan: The HS is also part of the Trinity. I will include Him in my prayers and
not only pray but I will also be a role model to others. And I will try not to
sin that much.

Reflection #1
Title: Pentecost
Summary:
One day God sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles and his other followers. Through a gush of wind, suddenly, the people then started speaking in different languages. As tongues of fire has also appeared through them, the Holy Spirit was upon them. Some people thought they were just drunk in cheap wine, but then peter has spoken to the crowd and has explained how the Holy Spirit was sent down to us.

Reflection:
This activity has made my faith stronger, because it made me know my knowledge about God more. I also know that God always has a plan for us. He has sent the Holy Spirit down to us to guide us during our life always.
