My Calling
When I was young girl, I had nothing to worry about in my life. I had food on my table every day, I was sent to a good school, and I lived in a beautiful home. In short, I had everything that I ever needed. The biggest problem that I may have encountered was when my playmate stole my toy, that’s it. But as I grew older, things started to become more complicated and problems started to arise. I had to learn to be less dependent and I had to make my own decisions and solve my own problems. That’s when I came to realize that life is the sum of all my choices. I have no one to blame (but myself) with what’s happening in my life because I am responsible for all my decisions. But what really matters most in my life today?
As a fourth year high school student, my priorities are mainly about college. Why? It’s because my future would depend mostly on my college life. My future employers would definitely look at my college transcripts and use that as a basis for my acceptance in their institution (what school did I graduate from, how high my grades are, etc…). Therefore, I have all the reasons not to screw up.
Each of us has our own sets of strengths and weaknesses. I can honestly name a few of my own. I believe that these strengths of mine are given by God, not just for my own benefit, but also for me to share them with others. A strength that I have is my athleticism/my being sporty. I put this gift to good use by teaching the people (who want to learn) the things/skills that I know about the sport that I play. Another strength that I have is my stability academically. I also put this gift to good use by grabbing the opportunity to teach those who are in need of my help. On the other hand, I also have weaknesses. The weaknesses that I have are not here to pull me down, but these weaknesses are here in order to help me strive to do better. There will always be room for improvement in each one of us. One of my weaknesses is my lack of confidence. But I am slowly working on this weakness of mine.
I am most happy and satisfied when I do things that don’t only benefit me, but also others. For example, when I go to outreaches (poor communities) or activities that help save the environment (tree planting, coastal clean-ups, etc…), it brings me great joy to know that I have also brought great joy to others and to Mother Nature through my actions.
My professional role models are all those teachers who are dedicated to their jobs. I admire those teachers who are patient, determined, and like I said, dedicated or passionate with what they are doing. They are my chosen role models because I would also like to become a teacher someday. I knew that I wanted to become a teacher because I have always been fond of teaching and caring for my younger cousins, nieces and nephews, or any younger person for that matter. My chosen vocation isn’t really related to the occupation of my parents since both of them are doctors. But they’d still love and support me no matter what I choose to become.
For me, professional success is not about earning a lot of money, but professional success is about earning respect and being happy with what you are doing. I can say that those people who are earning millions but are not happy with what they’re doing are not professionally successful.
As of now, I believe that I am being called to be of service to others by sharing with them my time and God-given talents. I also believe that I have a calling to be a teacher- to teach minds, touch hearts and transform lives. And I know that my family and friends would always be there to support me 100% of the way.
