Gospel Reflection #3
By: Donn Santos Sr. D
In the light of the gospel, the apostles asked Jesus to increase each of their faiths. The lord answered, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. I think what Jesus means is that no matter how big or small our faith is, it is still of value to God. In other words you don’t need a lot of faith to become an effective instrument of God’s power. If everyone can take a moment to notice the mustard seed size of faith we can discover a wonderful truth, The Holy Spirit does dwell in us and we do possess a power beyond our abilities to fully comprehend.
In the gospel, Jesus talks about Faith and Servant hood to the apostles. I think that Jesus wanted to let the apostles know that to become worthy apostles they must have faith and a mindset of a servant. Jesus wanted his apostles to have faith because there will be times that they will be severely tested as they go about their mission. Jesus leads by example, he himself is a servant.
In relation to our own Christian discipleship, no matter how difficult our lives and paths we cross are, we must remember that it is important to continue to have faith in Jesus. We must not lose this faith because this is what makes believers. This is the faith that we experience in our everyday lives, for example, don’t we sometimes wake up in the morning knowing we have lots of problems and tasks at hand but we know everything is going to be alright? This is the faith that Jesus wants us to have.
As we serve the people of God, we must always be in our best behavior, be humble and have a servant’s mindset. I know it is difficult to be a servant and some of us would like to have superiority or have that feeling of self importance but Jesus is teaching us otherwise. We should be true servants first.
We should all remember that God and Jesus is with us, As long as we have faith and have a servant’s mindset.
