The enmity between science and religion, sometimes, is once again prevalent. Assessing the current situation faced by the Philippine nation with regard to the Reproductive Health Bill, I would say that the aforementioned circumstance has reached our doorsteps, knocking, asking us to choose a side by which we will stand.
Truth be told, favoring the Reproductive Health Bill does not necessarily imply that one is disregarding what is moral and virtuous. It all relies on how one can see the big picture. In my opinion, the RH Bill was not formulated as a means to condone life threatening acts such as abortion and pre-marital sex. It was formulated so as to alleviate the pressing issue of our country's overpopulation. Come to think of it, the RH Bill to its entirety is a good way to somehow control what seems to be a rapidly increasing population. Again, it all depends on which picture one is looking at, which is why I am a proponent of the government in this situation. Though I support the bill, it does not mean that I pardon such immoral acts that erode our social structure. I believe that if this bill can pose some sort of solution that would be for the greater good of the country, then it deserves the chance to be considered.
We are presented two choices: to side with the government or to side with the Church. It need not be one or the other. It can be one with respect to the other. Why dwell on how at odds these two sides are when they can be on the same side? We can choose to abide by what the bill suggests without compromising our values; then, in turn, such enmity need not exist.
Why choose a side when there need not even be sides to begin with
