Best Work:Gospel reflection (Raffy Coronel)
Abraham tells the rich man “If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.” This reminds me of another parable – The Parable of the Tenants and the Vineyard. Both these parables are directed to our generation. I believe that the line “neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.” is directed to the Christians of today. Even after God has sent His only Son, we still commit sin.
We are like the rich man when we fail to recognize our true mission in this world, when we serve ourselves and not our neighbors. In effect, we separate ourselves from our brothers and sisters. We are distracted by our own interests and worldly possessions, but the world of God tells us “Do not store up for you treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” We fail to remember that our true treasure is in the kingdom of God, and we will obtain it when we live in His love.
This parable can be related to The Parable of the Tenants and the Vineyard because someone rising from the dead, as Abraham stated, can be related to Jesus when He resurrected. We are like the tenants at the times when we take for granted the love of God for us.
The beauty of this gospel lies in its ability to speak to us, even though it was written around a thousand years ago. We should not ignore the word of God. It already holds the answers to the problems we face today.
