Best Work of Nikko Sta Ana: Rich Man and Lazarus Gospel Reflection

Nikko Sta. Ana SR-B 29

Gospel Reflection – September 26, 2010

The Gospel for this day tells us the story of Lazarus, who is very poor, and started to starve everything. After knowing that he has nothing in his life, he eventually became sick and died in the grace of the Lord. There is a rich man, who lived in the same town as Lazarus, had money to buy fine home, beautiful clothes, plenty of food and many of his basic needs and wants. However, the rich man died shortly after the death of Lazarus. God’s justice prevails the end. The rich man is not able to bring his riches into the life, therefore, the poor man, Lazarus, has been awarded with eternal happiness.

Jesus calls foolish those who put their trust in things that are “passing” and not in God. These could not be their “passport” to life. The rich man ended up being empty-handed before God.

The reason why the rich man became empty-handed before God, is because he committed the sin of omission, which tempted him to do things which turn away from the presence of God.

We, La Sallians, are called to share what we have. We are also called to give alms to the poor during the offertory part in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, and in major charitable institutions.
