Best Work of Anton Carandang: Rich Man and Lazarus Gospel Reflection

Anton Carandang’s Sunday Gospel Output

Sunday Gospel Reflection

The Rich Man & Lazarus

1. What do you think of this Gospel Story in relation to our social situation today? Cite concrete situations in our present world which directly speak about this Sunday Gospel.

The widening gap between the rich and the poor. Like in America where rich people keep getting richer and poor people don’t progress.

2. That was a great story, wasn’t it? Why? Expound your answer. What factors made this Gospel story great?

The lesson we learn from it, that we should not spend our mortal lives full of physical pleasure. We must also have spiritual pleasure by sharing our blessings with those who need it the most.

3. Why do you think the rich man wanted Lazarus to serve him even after they were dead?

Because he thought that since Lazarus was the only one who can set him free from his torment because most of the evil that came from his lifetime was from the times that he didn’t help Lazarus.

4. Do you think the rich man ever was sorry for the way he treated Lazarus? Why? Why not? Explain.

Yes, because he was humble enough to ask help from Lazarus. If he wasn’t sorry then he wouldn’t have had the guts to ask for help from Lazarus.

5. Do you think the rich man’s brothers followed what Moses and the prophets’ writings said to do? Why? Why not?

No, like the rich man they had to know the results of what they do to even have the slightest care about what would happen to them in death.

6. What then could be the concrete challenges of this Sunday Gospel in your life this week as a Lasallian in particular and a follower of Jesus in general?

Not to be selfish with what God has blessed you with. And also an additional realization I had is not to take things for granted, if you’re gifted with a lot of wealth you should use it wisely and not just have fun with it thinking it will last forever.

7. If you were in the shoes first of Lazarus and second of the rich man, what will you do? Discuss. What then is the moral of this Sunday Gospel?

If I experienced the hardships of Lazarus first then of course I would know what to do with the riches I am gifted with as the rich man. I will share all the riches I have to those who really need it while still leaving some for myself so that I would at least continue to live and find other ways to help the needy. The moral of the story is to basically to be selfless with God’s gift to you, be a smart person and know what to do with what you’re gifted with.
