GOSPEL REFLECTION NUMBER 2

We live in a world wherein we are exposed to so much material things, and we think that these things are the most important things we could have. But what can material things give us? A proof that we can spend? That we can be grand and extravagant? Do these things really matter?
In line with the gospel, I have come to realize that we have all been living our lives in a very shallow way. As kids we would always strive for honors because our parents would give us new toys, or would treat us out, or would give us whatever we wanted. It was never because we just wanted to learn. We are so materialistic that we ignore what is essential, we neglect the values being taught to us, we always tend to look for a material prize.
What we do here on earth reflects who we are, who we have been and we would bring it to afterlife. God would not ask us how much money we made, how many Barbie dolls we had, how many cars were parked in our garage. He would simply ask us, what did we do in our lives? Did we help others from their burden? Did we suffer? Did we do anything to make this world a better and happier place? That’s all He would ask.
Through this gospel, I reflected on my life. Have I been living a shallow life? Have I been doing the things in my life so that I could gain material things? I realized that yes, at some point in my life I have been shallow and materialistic, but now I think that I have started to appreciate the little joys in life.
